Bhubaneswar: A motorcycle rider was killed after a speeding train hit him at a level crossing gate near Sahapur Junction in Bhadrak district on Sunday.
The incident happened while Abhimanyu Parida of Kanasahi village was on his way home around 2 pm. Alleging that the level crossing gate was open, even as the train passed, irate locals staged a demonstration on Bhadrak-Pirahat main road and ransacked the level crossing. Investigation into the matter is underway.
"The incident took place on a private siding owned, operated and managed by a company managing Dhamra Port. Indian Railways has no operational or administrative jurisdiction over this private siding, and is not involved in its management," said an official statement issued by East Coast Railway on Sunday.
