Mercury to rise by 4-6°C over next 5 days

Bhubaneswar: The Day temperature on Sunday crossed the 40-degrees-Celsius mark at six places in western Odisha, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a gradual rise in mercury by four to six notches over the next five days.Titlagarh at 41.5 degrees Celsius recorded the day's highest maximum temperature in the state, followed by Bhawanipatna and Bolangir, each recording 41 degrees Celsius. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7 degrees celsius.It warned of hot and humid conditions in 11 coastal districts for the next six days from Monday. Besides, heat wave warning was issued for four districts — Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Bargarh — which is likely to prevail over three days from Tuesday, the forecast said.The IMD issued a series of advisory to beat heatwave as well as hot and humid conditions.Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre, said wind pattern and a clear sky condition would support rise in mercury level.In the wake of IMD's heatwave, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner has issued an advisory to district collectors.
