Mayurbhanj police asked to step up vigil along state borders ahead of Prez, PM visits
Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the scheduled visits of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mayurbhanj district, DGP Y B Khurania on Wednesday instructed the local police to intensify vigilance along the West Bengal and Jharkhand borders.President Murmu will arrive in Mayurbhanj on June 19, followed by Prime Minister Modi the next day. They are slated to attend a joint programme at Rairangpur on June 20 to mark two years of the Mohan Charan Majhi-led BJP govt in Odisha.While Khurania reviewed security arrangements for the President on Wednesday, officials said a separate meeting would soon be convened to finalise the Prime Minister’s security plan.“As Mayurbhanj is a border district, we cannot afford any lapses. Inter-state borders will see intensified checking and patrolling,” a senior police officer said after attending the high-level meeting chaired by Khurania.The DGP has instructed regular inspections of local hotels, lodges and other accommodations to plug any possible loopholes.Given the likelihood of large public gatherings, strict measures will be enforced at all venues. Multilayered security rings will be established at the helipad, meeting venues and along the VVIP travel routes.
Technical checks and anti-sabotage measures will remain fully operational.Traffic diversions will be implemented on major roads in Mayurbhanj to minimise inconvenience to the public, while additional parking areas near programme venues have been identified.For crowd control and emergency response, special operations group (SOG), striking force and K-9 special squads will be deployed. Additional CCTV cameras and drone surveillance will also monitor the entire area.“Emergency medical services, fire safety and traffic management will be in place, with swift coordination from the district administration,” another senior officer said.The DGP instructed the officers to maintain heightened alertness and readiness to respond to any situation promptly, emphasising the importance of flawless execution during the high-profile visit.
