Balasore: A 36-year-old man was detained for allegedly beating his 80-year-old father to death over a dispute involving just Rs 400 at Ladadihi village under Morada police station in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Marandi, while the accused is his son, Madhu Marandi.According to reports, Madhu used to frequently demand money from his elderly father. On Wednesday at around 9 pm, Gobinda was resting at home when Madhu allegedly asked him for Rs 400, reportedly from the money earned by selling drumsticks.When Gobinda refused to hand over the money, Madhu, who was allegedly drunk became enraged. In a fit of anger, he allegedly attacked his father with a bamboo stick, repeatedly assaulting him until he died on the spot.On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot on Thursday morning. Chitrada outpost officer Bhimasen Mallik said police are questioning Madhu Marandi in connection with the murder. The body has been sent for post-mortem, he added.
