AKU bags patent for eggshell water filtration system
Patna: Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) has been awarded a patent by the Govt of India’s Patent Office for its invention on a waste eggshell-based low-cost water filtration system.The invention, developed by scientists from the School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at AKU—Abhay Kumar Aman, Rakesh Kumar Singh and Ashutosh Kumar—holds significant potential for regions facing serious water quality challenges.Explaining the innovation, Rakesh Kumar Singh said waste eggshells are processed into calcium oxide nanoparticles that can effectively absorb arsenic, fluoride, lead and other toxic elements present in water. The system also deactivates bacteria and pathogens, making the water safe for human consumption.Congratulating the scientists, AKU Vice-Chancellor Sharad Kumar Yadav said the award of the patent reflects the university’s commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation aimed at societal welfare.
