38-year old man from Andhra Pradesh gets rigorous life imprisonment for strangling his wife
Berhampur: The additional sessions judge's court in Paralakhemundi on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year old man from Andhra Pradesh to rigorous life imprisonment for strangling his 26-year-old wife at their rented accommodation in a village under Gurandi police station limits of Gajapati district seven years ago.Judge Bibhu Prasad Panda has also slapped a fine Rs 17,500 on convict Rakoti Dhanunjaya, a native of Jadiwada in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district. He will have to go for an additional six months' rigorous imprisonment, on failure to pay the fine amount, the court said. The court pronounced its verdict after recording the statements of 13 witnesses, including the relatives of deceased Regati Pentama, two doctors and police, said Rajesh Kumar Mishra, public prosecutor.Dhanunjaya had married Pentama in 2018 as per the Hindu rituals, after which he started demanding more dowry, and torturing and assaulting her.On Nov 12, 2019 her uncle got information about her death.
