Upper Lake encroachments row: 200-ft boundary wall, part of warehouse razed
Bhopal: Authorities in Bhopal on Saturday demolished Crescent Club's 200-foot boundary wall and adjoining servant quarters as part of a drive to clear illegal constructions within 50 meters of the Upper Lake's full tank level (FTL).The operation, led by Bairagarh SDM Ravi Shankar Rai and Tehsildar Harsh Vikram Singh, also razed part of contractor Amin's 8,000 sq. ft. warehouse and a curtain wall built with beams. The team acted after Crescent Club operators failed to produce construction permits despite earlier notices.
Officials said the demolition campaign is part of enforcing a no-construction zone around the lake. Resort operator Shailendra Raina and steel businessman Bablu sought a two-day extension to remove their structures voluntarily, submitting written consent. Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh stated that all structures built within 50 meters of the FTL after March 16, 2022, will be treated as encroachments and demolished. In rural areas, the limit extends to 250 meters. A survey has identified 153 slums and permanent structures, including luxury bungalows, for removal. The demolition team is expected to return in two days to continue action against unauthorized constructions.Staff at the site requested two days to present construction documents. The team will return after two days to continue demolition of the Crescent Club and other permanent structures. SDM Rai stated that if owners fail to remove constructions themselves, authorities will proceed with demolition.
