BHOPAL: A month after a burnt body of a woman was found in jungles of Balampur on Bhopal-Vidisha Road in Bhopal district, cops on Thursday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in crime.
Of the two accused, she allegedly had illicit relations with one and other man is brother-in-law of the accused. Second accused helped main accused commit the crime.
The body was recovered on May 7.
IPS officer on probation, SHO Sukhi Sewania police station, Vinayak Verma told TOI, the dead woman, identified as Puja Soni, 31, was mother of two children, including a teenaged son. She resided in Chhola area of old city.
Accused are Nepal Singh Rajput, 24, and Rajendra Singh Rajput, 34. Puja Soni and Nepal Singh, a native of Vidisha, who live in Karond area, allegedly had illicit relations.
Nepal Singh was housekeeping supervisor at a mall and Puja had worked there. Despite elder to accused, the woman developed illicit relations with him.
Woman was in love with Nepal Singh and wanted to marry her but accused after having affair for almost two years wanted to get rid of her.
In meantime, Nepal Singh’s marriage was fixed, but Puja allegedly told about her affair to would-be wife’s family resulting in cancellation of the marriage.
Nepal Singh’s brother-in-law Rajendra Singh, a farmer and a resident of Gunga, knew about the relation and growing tension between the two.
He asked Puja to end her relation with Nepal Singh, but she was reluctant to do so. On May 7, the trio left on a bike to Balampur where, Nepal Singh allegedly strangulated her after a heated argument and Rajendra Singh caught her by hands. The duo then poured petrol on her and set her on fire.
Later, police ascertained identity of deceased while looking into a missing person report of a woman at Chhola Mandir police station on May 6.
Subsequently, cops came to know about relations of Nepal Singh and the woman and rounded him up, who broke down and began to sing about involvement of his brother-in-law, who was arrested later.
During interrogation cops came to know the woman and Nepal Singh were at same place at time of incident. On Thursday, the accused were produced in court and taken on police remand for two days, officials added.
