Bhopal: In a surprise inspection at a gas relief hospital in city, the state human rights commission slammed the absence of a radiologist.
The rights body also said that the operation theatre and oxygen plant—constructed using public funds— lying unused even after 3 years amounted to a violation of human rights and fell under the category of criminal negligence.

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission chairman Awadhesh Pratap Singh conducted a surprise inspection on Tuesday at the Indira Gandhi Women and Children Hospital, Gas Relief, Bhopal, which is operated by the gas relief and rehabilitation department.
During the inspection, Singh expressed displeasure over the absence of a suitable radiologist, particularly for conducting sonography for women, and over the fact that the modular operation theatre and oxygen plant, which were constructed in 2023, still were not put to use for patient treatment even after 3 years.
He directed the hospital superintendent to submit a report on the mismanagement at the gas hospital.
The superintendent informed him that repairs related to plaster falling from the ceiling of the operation theatre and termite damage on the walls were not carried out by the CPA.
The chairman of the human rights panel further said that after receiving the report an explanation would be sought from the officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), and appropriate action would be taken by the commission.
