MP shooter Suraj Sharma fires golden double at nationals
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh shooter Suraj Sharma delivered a stunning performance at the 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions at Delhi's Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, clinching a golden double by winning both the Senior and Junior Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol national titles with calm precision and control. The day belonged entirely to Suraj. He began by stamping his authority in the junior men's final, firing 30 hits to claim the gold medal in convincing style.
Without losing focus, he returned later for the senior men's final and produced another clinical display, scoring 31 hits to top the field once again. In the senior showdown, Suraj started in imperious fashion—hitting an astonishing 19 of his first 20 targets—and maintained his composure till the end to finish three hits clear of defending champion Vijayveer Sidhu of Punjab, who took silver with 28 hits. Bhavesh Shekhawat of Rajasthan secured bronze with 24 hits. Earlier, in the junior final, Suraj's consistent shooting saw him dominate the contest, with Mukesh Nelavalli earning silver on 25 hits and Haryana's Jatin taking bronze after a shoot-off with 22 hits. Suraj's form also helped push Madhya Pradesh to the team silver medal in the junior category with a total of 1689, alongside teammates Sahil Choudhary and Hariom. Haryana captured the team gold with 1705, while the Navy shot 1667 for bronze.With two individual national titles in a single championship, Suraj Sharma has firmly established himself as one of India's brightest young pistol prospects.
