Bhopal: A mob allegedly assaulted and humiliated the husband of a sarpanch in Unnao town of Datia district, blackening his face and parading him with a garland of shoes over a suspected elopement involving his nephew and a married woman, police said.
The incident took place on Sunday when relatives of the woman reached the sarpanch's house and attacked her husband, Laxman Verma, accusing the sarpanch's nephew of eloping with her. The victim was beaten and later paraded through the village after his face was smeared with a black substance.
"Complainant has reported that Golu Yadav, Manoj Yadav, Pawan Choubey, Abhishek Yadav and Bhagat Singh Yadav thrashed him, put oil on his face and garlanded him with shoes. A case has been registered at Unao police station, a few suspects have been rounded up and search for others is going on," sub-divisional officer of police, Bhander, Punam Chand Yadav, said in a statement.
Police said the woman, who went missing on March 19, returned on Sunday.
