Man booked for raping fiance & demanding 15 lakh dowry

Bhopal: A 28-year-old woman has accused her fiancé of rape on promise of marriage and demanding Rs 15 lakh as dowry. The man, along with his parents, was booked under charges of rape and dowry harassment.According to police, the complainant was contacted on a matrimonial site by a resident of Delhi, who introduced himself as a businessman. The families agreed to the marriage, and the engagement was solemnised in 2025. The woman alleged the accused came to Bhopal and allegedly raped her. Subsequently, the accused claimed he suffered business losses and demanded Rs 15 lakh. The woman arranged Rs 3.88 lakh through a personal loan and transferred the amount to him. She is currently repaying the loan in instalments.Later, the accused allegedly demanded an additional Rs 12 lakh, stating that dowry would be necessary for the marriage. When the woman and her family said they cannot afford to pay the amount, the accused and his family reportedly began pressuring them over dowry and eventually refused to proceed with the marriage.
