Bhopal: A man allegedly bludgeoned his wife to death in Betul's Bhainsdehi area over suspicion of her talking on the phone with another person, police officials said.The accused, who fled after the assault, was later arrested late on Sunday and confessed during questioning. The incident took place on Saturday night in Baildhana village under Bhainsdehi police station limits. Police identified the accused as Raju Dhote, 28, who returned home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife, Malobai, 27, over her mobile phone. He suspected that she was speaking to someone, which led to a heated argument.In a fit of rage, Dhote allegedly attacked her with a stick, repeatedly hitting her on the head and body. The woman sustained severe injuries and was taken to the district hospital by family members when she died on the way. "The accused told us that he suspected his wife of infidelity as she used to talk to someone over phone. This triggered the incident, though he claimed that his intention was not to kill, but she died. We arrested the accused and he was sent to jail," Bhainsdehi police station in-charge, Rajesh Satankar, told TOI.
After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot but was later arrested by police. During interrogation, he confessed that he killed his wife due to suspicion and stress.Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
