BHOPAL: A
BSP leader was shot dead in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday evening.
Deceased has been identified as Mahendra Kumar Gupta. The incident took place at around 9:30 pm while Gupta was attending a wedding ceremony at Gajraj Palace.
A young boy, who was already present at the venue, opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officers reached the spot.
The accused fled shortly after the shooting. Investigations are underway.
Mahendra Kumar Gupta, who contested the 2023 assembly elections on a BSP ticket from the Bijawar seat in Chhatarpur district, finished third with 10443 votes.
Additionally, he held the position of district vice president within the BSP and had previously served as a Sarpanch. He hailed from Isanagar. Gupta had multiple cases registered against him including three attempts to murder and was sentenced to seven years in one of the cases. Police say that a young boy shot him from a close range and fled the spot. An old rivalry is suspected to be the cause behind this incident.
