Madhya Pradesh assembly pays homage to 'Amma'

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh assembly was adjourned for ten minutes on Tuesday after paying homage to deceased Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha who passed away on Monday night.

left for Chennai on Tuesday morning to pay his homage to Jayalalitha while in his absence finance minister Jayant Malaiyya addressed the House.

"She was five times chief minister and her repeated return to power indicates her popularity with the people. The Tamil Nadu chief minister knew how to deal with the toughest situations," Malaiyya said. The finance minister said that Jayalalitha has worked in 140 films in Tamil, Kannad, Telegu and other languages. He praised the AIADMK leader's pro-poor welfare policies. "The mid-day meal scheme is known across the globe, the Amma Canteen scheme and the Palna-Sishu programme took Tamil Nadu forward."

Congress' deputy leader of Opposition Bala Bachchan recalled that after losing her father at a very early age, Jayalalitha knew about life's struggles. "And yet she ranked second in the class X public examinations in the state. After which she worked in films," Bala Bachchan said.
The House observed two minutes silence to pay homage to the departed Tamil Nadu CM. Speaker Sitasharan Sharma adjourned the House for ten minutes.
