ITI launches first-of-its-kind course in elderly care in Indore

Indore: With old age homes witnessing high occupancy and a steady rise in demand for assisted living, a quiet but significant shift is taking shape in the job market. Industrial Training Institute's (ITI) Indore division has introduced a first-of-its-kind course in elderly care, training students not just in skills but in empathy. The course prepares students to handle both emotional and physical needs of senior citizens, from managing age-related illnesses to offering day-to-day support and companionship. With rising admissions in old age homes, the demand for trained caregivers is steadily growing. The institute's principal, Reena Solanki, said that the decision was driven by clear signals from the ground. "We reviewed job requirements across sectors and found a strong demand for trained caregivers. Elderly care today is not just about assistance, it requires sensitivity, patience and proper training. This course aims to bridge that gap," she said. The programme has a batch size of 24 students, with the first batch expected to graduate this year. Officials said that students completing the course were likely to find opportunities in old age homes, hospitals and home-based care services, a sector that is expanding quietly but rapidly.
