Fight over train seat turns fatal, teen beaten to death at Betul stn
Bhopal: An 18-year-old youth was allegedly dragged out of a train coach and beaten to death by a group of men following a seat dispute at Bordehi railway station in Betul district in the early hours of Monday.
The victim, identified as Ali Khan of Chhindwara district, was travelling with his friends in Panchvalley Express from Chhindwara to Bhopal. GRP arrested four accused on Tuesday, while the main accused, identified as Sagar, and some other unidentified attackers are yet to be arrested.
According to police, the dispute began near Parasia railway station after an argument broke out between Khan and another passenger over a train seat. Though the matter appeared to have subsided initially, the accused allegedly called his associates to Bordehi station before the train arrived there.
Investigators said when the train halted at Bordehi station, a group of around 12-15 men allegedly surrounded Khan, dragged him out of the coach and assaulted him brutally with sticks and kicks. His friends, who were also allegedly being chased by the attackers, fled to other compartments fearing for their lives. Khan was later found dead on the railway platform.
“The main accused, Sagar, who was travelling in the same train with the deceased, is yet to be arrested. There was a dispute between the accused and the deceased over a train seat. Later, when the train approached Bordehi station, the accused called up his friends, and at the railway station they all dragged out the deceased and thrashed him to death. Four have been arrested. Besides the main accused, there are other unidentified accused too. Efforts are on to arrest all the accused,” Aamla GRP police station in-charge Mahendra Patil told TOI.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kanhaiya alias Kali, Amit alias Jeenu Ubanare, Ayan Khan and Naveen Patil, all residents of Betul district. Police said further investigation is on.
