BHOPAL: A 10-hour road blockade in the Bhind ended at 2:00am on Tuesday night after local administrative officials reached a consensus with protesters.
The demonstration was staged to protest the alleged abduction, gang rape, and murder of a ninth-class student from Gwalior's Gol Pahadiya locality. Following the resolution, the victim’s last rites were performed on Wednesday morning.
The protest began Tuesday when the minor's body arrived in the village. Agitated residents blocked the road with the body, demanding a fast-track court trial, one crore in compensation, a government job for a family member, and arms licenses.
The administration provided a written assurance guaranteeing village-level employment for a family member, four arms licenses for security, and a lease for eight bighas of government land. Following this, community representative Anil Gurjar announced the end of the sit-in.
According to police, the victim was abducted on May 28 by youths from her own village. Investigators revealed a human trafficking angle, stating the girl was allegedly "traded" for 50,000 during the commission of the crime before being murdered.
Police apprehended three suspects. Police have registered cases against them charging kidnapping, murder, and gang rape, while also invoking provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC-ST) Act.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
