Farmer dies after bee attack in Umaria
Bhopal: A 65-year-old farmer died after being attacked by a swarm of bees while working in his field in Umaria district, police said. The incident occurred in Panpatha village under Indwar police station limits when Govind Jaiswal was bundling harvested wheat in his field located near his house.Police said a large hive on a banyan tree in the field was disturbed, after which a swarm of bees came out and attacked him. He sustained multiple stings across his body and collapsed at the spot. By the time family members and villagers reached after being alerted, he died.The incident took place during ongoing wheat harvesting in the area, when farmers are spending long hours in fields. Locals said the farmer was alone at the time of the attack and could not get immediate help.Moolchand Jaiswal, sarpanch of Panpatha village, told TOI, "It was at around 5.30 pm on Saturday evening that the elderly man was working on his farm. Reaping of crops is going on. There is a banyan tree on his farm. And bees have made their hive on that tree. Somehow bees got irritated and attacked him. Exactly what happened and how they got irritated is not known as he was alone there. He tried to escape but was attacked by a swarm of bees, leading to his death on the spot."
