: Egyptian dance recital ‘Tanora’ performed by four artistes as part of ‘Jashn-e-Urdu’ festival left the audience enthralled at
Rabindra Bhavan
on Friday.
The artistes from Egypt wore colourful traditional attires equipped with lights that made beautiful patterns when they danced on the stage.
‘Tanora’, the traditional dance has been passed on to them from their forefathers and they are striving hard to keep the culture alive. Spinning around in circles, ‘Tanora’ dance is more of a prayer to express gratitude to the nature for its blessings and bowing down to the supreme power. It is believed that when a person spins in circles comes closer to the God reaching an elated state of mind.

who recited
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s qawwalis.
Performance by Harmony group’s
Umesh and
Venus Tarkasvar
went down well with the audience.
An open mic by Mehfil group organised in the afternoon showcased a lot of budding talent of the city. A number of bands and solo performances throughout the day provided a platform to budding artistes.
