Class 10 student stabbed to death outside exam centre in Madhya Pradesh; 8 minors detained
BHOPAL: A 14-year-old Class 10 student was stabbed to death outside his examination centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district on Friday afternoon, with police detaining eight minor students after examining CCTV footage from the area.
The incident took place near Malaiya Mill under Kotwali police station limits, shortly after the victim had finished writing his board examination.
Police identified the deceased as Rishi Ahirwar (14), a resident of Imlai village under Dehat police station area. According to investigators, Rishi was leaving the school examination centre after appearing for his Class 10 exam when he was attacked by a group of students.
His classmates immediately rushed him to the district hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police scanned CCTV footage from the surrounding area and identified eight minor boys suspected to be involved in the attack. All eight have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident took place over an earlier dispute between the victim and one of the accused.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that he had clashed with the deceased on February 27 and again on March 2 during examinations.
According to police, the accused told investigators that the dispute began when Rishi allegedly stared at him during an exam and abused him when confronted, leading to a heated argument. The tension reportedly escalated after another confrontation on March 2. Police said the accused and his associates allegedly planned the attack and confronted Rishi as he was leaving the examination centre on Friday.
The main accused, along with seven other minor students, attacked him with a knife and fled from the spot. Rishi’s friends, who were present near the examination centre, took him to hospital, but doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police have produced the detained minors before the Juvenile Justice Board and further legal action will follow based on the investigation. During questioning, police also gathered background details about the accused students.
Officials said the boys are aged between 14 and 15 years and come from economically weaker families. The fathers of four of the boys work in Damoh, while the fathers of the remaining children are employed abroad and the boys live with their mothers. Police said seven of the suspects are students of the same school, while the other studies in a different school but lives in the same neighbourhood.
