According to police, the colony residents complained to the municipal corporation about the increasing number of stray dogs in the colony, following which a civic team approached to capture the dogs. This led to an argument on Wednesday night between colony residents Vandana Sen, Laxmi Thakur and a dog-lover woman, along with her daughter, residents of Shanti Nagar. Two days later, the accused's wife and other animal activists got the dogs released on Wednesday. The dispute subsided a while later.
Police said that the dog-lover woman informed her husband, Ashok, about the altercation. On Thursday morning, Ashok arrived at Shravan Kanta Colony along with his wife, daughter and an accomplice at around 8.30 am.
They allegedly began filming outside Vandana's house and abused the family members.
When Vandana objected to the abuse and recording, Ashok allegedly threatened her by brandishing a sword and then attacked her. After attacking Vandana, he attacked Laxmi. Laxmi sustained a serious injury to her abdomen, while Vandana's right hand was badly cut. Both women were admitted to hospital for treatment. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at a nearby house.
Police said Ashok lives in Shanti Nagar, a neighbouring colony, and his wife is associated with activists working for animals.
Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare said a case on charges of attempt to murder was filed against Ashok and his accomplices, and a search is on for them.
