Chaos at Bhopal bridge: Bolero slams auto, then hangs dangerously over the edge

BHOPAL: Chaos gripped Bharat Talkies Bridge in Bhopal's busy Hamidia Road around 8.30 am on Thursday, after a speeding Bolero lost control and hit an auto-rickshaw before piercing through the bridge railing. Stunned morning commuters held their breath as the half of the vehicle hung precariously from the bridge.

According to eyewitness accounts, the front wheel of the auto-rickshaw broke away from the vehicle due to the impact of the crash. While the auto driver sustained injuries in the accident, the passengers inside the three-wheeler escaped unhurt.


According to Bajaria police, the Bolero was motoring along at a very high speed, when the driver suddenly lost control and rammed the

Auto-rickshaw before crashing into the bridge railing. Soon, the bridge swelled with a crowd of curious onlookers, as the front half or portion of the Bolero dangled dangerously from the bridge after bursting through the railing.

Police said they were still piecing the sequence of events leading up to the crash and the exact cause of the accident was under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Bolero driver was booked for rash and negligent driving, along with other relevant charges.

After the collision, the Bolero gored the bridge railing and the front portion of the vehicle tilted precariously downward, drawing a large crowd at the scene.
