Teams told to inspect schools, review teaching in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The department of school education and literacy has announced an intensive statewide inspection programme to monitor school preparedness, enrolment, infrastructure, and learning standards ahead of 2026-27 academic year.

In a circular issued by the commissioner of school education Monday, the department directed officials to conduct surprise school visits, review teaching-learning readiness, and ensure institutions are fully prepared before the June 1 reopening.

According to the circular, district- and taluk-level teams led by deputy directors, block education officers, and other officials will carry out inspections throughout the academic year, with special focus on schools identified as lagging in learning outcomes.

Officials have been instructed to examine student enrolment and attendance, classroom readiness, bridge courses, implementation of incentive schemes and safety conditions in schools, particularly in the wake of heavy rain.

Each team will visit three schools a day — two primary and one secondary — following a route map prepared at the taluk and district levels. Schools showing poor progress will be identified for continued monitoring and remedial support.

The department has instructed schools to complete cleaning and repair works before reopening, especially in buildings affected by rain damage, fallen trees or electrical hazards. It directed schools to ensure safe drinking water, functional toilets, and proper infrastructure.
