bangalore: it is strange but true. in the sports authority of karnataka (sak) meeting scheduled to be held on friday to amend the rule in a bid to accomodate the new nominated chairman venugopal, it is likely that the present chairman s s mallikarjun will need to pitch in and play the role to welcome the new entrant. the state government nominated venugopal as chairman of sak, while minister for youth services and sports s.s.mallikarjun holds the same post. taking into account the assembly in session, it is doubtful that mallikarjun may attend the meeting. the sports minister, however, confirmed that he would try and make it. "yes, we will provide way for his (venugopal's) inclusion in the sak," said mallikarjun. on the powers of the newly appointed chairman, he said: "he would look into sak activities, conduct of sports and other activities." as for the powers of sak chairman, the constitution has not given a clear-cut description. when questioned, venugopal just said: "sorry, i really don't know. please ask the director of department of youth services and sports." his appointment has led to confusion in the administration. the authority already has a.j. anandan as vice-chairman. anandan says if the minister is busy, he would chair the meeting. describing the present situation, he said: "there is no clear picture but if likeminded people can walk together and have a definite goal, whatever is on paper may not be taken seriously." "we are going to rejuvenate the sak," he added. according to sources, friday's meeting is to discuss the exemption of income tax for donations under sak, and accommodating the new chairman. "there will be a three-way-tie (unlike a league format tournament) between the chairman (sports minister), sak chairman and vice-chairman but at least in case of tie, a quotent rule is applied for the deserved result but we have wait and watch, which rule will be applicable for this "kissa kursi ka" situation in the days to come in the karnataka sports administration" is the joke making rounds in the sports circles.
