Karnataka: AISEC slams BEO for TC order forcing students to shift to KPS Magnet School
Koppal/Ballari: The state wing of All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) has accused Channapattana BEO of issuing coercive directions to govt school teachers, ordering them to issue TCs to students and shift them to KPS Magnet School at Honganur, a move the organisation says undermines neighbourhood govt schools serving poor and labourer families. In a media release, AISEC Karnataka president and educationist Allamaprabhu Bettadur said the organisation was shocked by a showcause notice issued on March 7, 2026, by Channapattana BEO to five headmasters and assistant teachers.According to Bettadur, the notice seeks to penalise educators for running neighbourhood govt schools that cater to children from economically weak families. He alleged that the BEO instructed teachers to issue TCs to several students and ensure their admission in Honganur, effectively forcing children to leave their local schools for a distant institution.Bettadur recalled that the education minister had earlier told the assembly in Belagavi that no Kannada govt school would be closed and that even a school with a single child would continue to function. However, he said that parents in the area are unwilling to send their children to Honganur, even with private transport, because of the distance.AISEC alleged that teachers were being issued notices for continuing to run govt schools and educate children from poor and rural families, causing concern among teachers and local communities. The organisation also raised questions about compliance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which guarantees access to schooling within the neighbourhood. According to Bettadur, directing teachers to issue TCs and shift students elsewhere raises concerns about whether the act's provisions are being followed.AISEC demanded the immediate withdrawal of the show-cause notices issued to the five headmasters and assistant teachers and sought the scrapping of the directive that allegedly requires teachers to issue TCs against parents' wishes.Bettadur urged chief minister to intervene and ensure that neighbourhood govt schools continue without administrative pressure. He also called on the state govt to fill around 62,000 vacant teacher posts through permanent appointments and provide adequate infrastructure in govt schools across Karnataka.Appealing for support, Bettadur asked parents, educationists and the public across the state to stand with teachers and families in Channapattana and support efforts to protect government schools serving poor and rural communities.
