Car-bike collision: Bengaluru techie killed after being flung off flyover
Bengaluru: A 26-year-old software engineer lost her life in a tragic road accident in the early hours of Thursday after a speeding car collided with the bike she was riding pillion on at Marathahalli Bridge in Spice Garden Layout.
The deceased, NT Krishna Sri of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, worked in a private company in the city and stayed at a PG accommodation in Ashwath Nagar. According to police, the accident occurred around 2am when Krishna Sri was riding pillion on a bike with her colleague, Avinash (26). As they approached the bridge, Avinash allegedly rode against the traffic on a one-way stretch.
A Skoda car, travelling in the designated direction, crashed into the bike on the bridge. The impact was so severe Krishna Sri was tossed into the air, thrown off the flyover, and fell onto the service road below. She suffered severe head injuries as she was riding without wearing a helmet. Avinash, who fell onto the road on the bridge after the collision, sustained injuries and is said to be out of danger and undergoing treatment.
The injured Krishna Sri was rushed to a nearby private hospital with the help of passersby. However, doctors declared her dead before treatment could begin at around 3.05am.
HAL traffic police have registered a case against the car driver, Suresh Kumar S, 40, who is also employed at a software company. When police subjected him to a breathalyser test, his reading was 62 mg/100 ml. He was arrested and will be produced in court.
Police also collected a blood sample from Avinash to ascertain whether he was riding under the influence of alcohol. A senior officer said Avinash wanted to open a hotel and claimed to be taking Krishna Sri to show her the location.
A separate case has been registered against Avinash for riding in the wrong direction on a one-way street. Probe is on.
