Bengaluru man, daughter arrested for conning govt job aspirants of Rs 5.3 crore

Bengaluru: The organised crime squad (east) of Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a man and his daughter on charges of orchestrating a govt job scam that duped more than 40 aspirants of over Rs 5.3 crore.

The arrested are Shamshad Begum MM, 48, and her father, Mansoor Ahmed MM, 78, residents of Ganganagar in RT Nagar.

The fraud came to light following a complaint by Sangamesh Rachayya Vastrad from Vijayapura district in Nov last year. The duo posed as influential intermediaries with connections to senior govt officials and political functionaries, claiming they could secure jobs in railways, income tax department, irrigation, health and social welfare departments. They largely lured job aspirants from North Karnataka.

Police said the accused issued fake appointment letters and even set up bogus training centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. In a bid to gain the trust of victims, they paid salaries for up to four months to a few before abruptly cutting off their contact.

Vastrad claimed he alone paid Rs 2.5 crore to secure jobs for his relatives and children of his friends.
