Advanced blood test analyser installed at Jayadeva Institute to provide quicker blood test reports
BENGALURU: Getting your blood test at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research? Your wait time for the report will be cut by at least an hour, thanks to the newly installed advanced blood test analyser (Roche Cobas Pro).
The cardiac care hospital has one of the highest patient loads among the public health facilities in the state and is frequented by patients from all over the country. The new analyser which delivers test reports in a very short time is expected to double the working capacity of the laboratory.
“Currently, it takes 3 hours for us to deliver a patient their blood test reports after their sample has been drawn. But now, including collection, transportation to the lab, centrifuging of the blood, processing and report will take around 45 mins to 1 hour in case of cardiac emergencies and around 2 hours in non-emergency/ other cases,” said Dr. Sheethal K.C. Associate Prof. of Biochemistry & Academic Superintendent.
One of the salient features of the analyser is that unlike previous analyser, in this equipment the lab techs do not have to place the blood sample separately in three machines. “It is an integrated analyser with all three machines,” Dr Sheethal said. In six months' time, one backup equipment will also be added to the system to further increase efficiency.
"At Jayadeva Hospital, around 1,800 to 2,000 patients undergo diagnostic tests every day. In this context, the newly installed machine will be highly beneficial in delivering blood test reports to all patients quickly and within the shortest possible time," said Dr B Dinesh, Director of the institute.
Most patients who undergo these tests have cardiac issues while the other part of the patient load is made up of those who come for master health checkups. “In cardiac cases, we perform the cardiac marker test which is very important for heart attack patients. In case of a master health checkup, we test lipid profiles, diabetic panel, vitamin levels, thyroid levels and liver function to name a few. We can perform n number of investigations with the new analyser,” Dr Sheethal noted.
Dr Dinesh also added “With the help of this newly installed machine, blood test reports will reach patients faster, and doctors will be able to examine more patients efficiently. Additionally, during emergency situations, treatment can be administered promptly based on test reports, thereby helping save patients’ lives."
