Pilibhit: A case has been registered against a 34-year-old man for allegedly posting obscene photographs of his estranged wife on social media along with derogatory remarks. The accused also allegedly shared pictures of his mother-in-law in the same posts.
The woman said she was married in 2019 in Aonla town of Bareilly district but returned to her parental home amid dowry-related disputes. She alleged that her husband defamed her on social media by uploading obscene photographs and making objectionable comments.
She further said that when she submitted a written complaint on May 7, 2024, police registered an FIR under provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. According to her, this emboldened her husband to continue harassing her as he allegedly nursed a grudge over a dowry-related case she had filed against him.
After a brief pause, he allegedly resumed posting her private photographs on various social media platforms, which she said harmed her reputation and that of her family in society.
Neuria SHO Subhash Mawi said that on the directions of the Superintendent of Police, the accused was booked under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for transmitting obscene material in electronic form.
