Bareilly: More than a month after an HPCL official was assaulted by four men and following allegations that "no action was taken in the case", the SHO of Katghar police station in Moradabad was suspended by the SSP on Friday for "dereliction of duty".
SP (Moradabad city), Kumar Ranvijay Singh, said that the SHO was removed as he did not perform his duties properly.
The incident took place on Feb 12, when Praveen Patel, an assistant manager with HPCL, was allegedly assaulted by four persons, including Lokesh Kumar, while inspecting a gas pipeline project in Moradabad's Jaitia Shahdullapur village.
But, despite an FIR being registered, no arrests were made. The matter gained traction after the recent brutal killing of two HPCL officials in another incident in Budaun. Following the incident, three cops were suspended, the CO and SSP were shunted, and the accused was arrested in a police encounter.
In the incident involving assault of the HPCL official, SSP Satpal Antil ordered a review, which revealed lapses in police action. Katghar SHO Vinod Kumar was suspended and SHO Shailendra Kumar Singh was given charge of the police station.
Soon after, the main accused, Lokesh Kumar alias Anshu of Hridaypur village, was arrested. He was produced in court and sent to jail. Police said sections related to extortion have now been added based on the victim's statement and investigation.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with
