Congress protests against ‘derogatory’ Raj Babbar post on Facebook
Bareilly: Incensed by a social media post that was uploaded by a city doctor and featuring newly appointed UP Congress president Raj Babbar, local party leaders staged a protest in front of the senior superintendent of police (SSP) office on Friday and demanded an FIR against him. According to sources, Dr Ravi Khanna posted an image of Babbar on the latter’s Facebook wall from the movie ‘Insaaf Ka Taraju’, in which he is shown ogling at his co-star Padmini Kolhapure, and captioned it as ‘UP mein Congress ki halat ka jayja lete Raj Babbar Sahib’ (Raj Babbar taking a review of Congress in UP). In two hours, the posts received around 145 likes and was shared 31 times. “Khanna’s post has hurt our sentiments and he has tried to harm the image of Congress in the society. It is wrong to mislead the public by posting a still from the movie which has nothing to do with reality,” said Ramdev Pandy, district president, Congress. “He has also uploaded objectionable posts against other senior Congress leaders too, including Sonia Gandhi, in the past,” said Chaudhary Aslam Miam, city president, Congress. Meanwhile, SSP RK Bhardwaj said, “We have submitted a representation of the Congress party to cyber police for investigation. If charges are proved, action will be taken against the doctor.” When contacted, Khanna said, “The post was received on a WhatsApp group and uploaded on Facebook without any wicked intention. It was removed after objections were raised from the concerned party. I do not belong to any political party and express my regret about it.”
