PILIBHIT: An FIR has been registered against two men, aged 42 and 45, who allegedly gangraped their 40-year-old family friend on the pretext of giving her a lift on Jan 15. The action on Saturday night follows an order issued by the court of chief judicial magistrate in Pilibhit as police allegedly declined to take legal action earlier.
On that fateful day around 1.30pm, the woman was waiting for a passenger vehicle to Pilibhit city at her village when one of the accused, a family friend from a nearby village, allegedly offered her a lift on his bike. As they reached Jangrauli village along Bhind-Lipulekh NH-731, another family friend joined them.
The woman alleged that she was forced to inhale an intoxicant, causing her to lose consciousness, and was then raped by the two men in a nearby sugarcane field. When she resisted, the accused attempted to strangle her with a scarf and threatened to kill her and her husband if she informed the police before fleeing.
The survivor said she attempted to lodge an FIR at Sungarhi police station but was declined any action. A written complaint to the superintendent of police through a registered post also went unanswered, prompting her to approach the court.
SHO Naresh Kumar Tyagi said following the court’s order, a case was registered against the accused under sections 70(1) (gangrape), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 123 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit another offense) of BNS.
