Three shots fired at retired professor’s house in Parbhani; two arrested
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A man allegedly fired three rounds at the residence of a retired professor over an old monetary dispute in Parbhani city's Sujata Colony on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 3.30pm and triggered fear among residents, though no injuries were reported.Police said the accused targeted the house of Gautam Munde, a retired professor and Marathwada organiser of the People's Republican Party. The accused, Vilas Bansod, allegedly used his licensed pistol to open fire at Munde's house following a long-standing financial dispute.Parbhani superintendent of police Ravindra Singh Pardeshi said, "The accused, Vilas Bansod, used his licensed firearm, a pistol, to fire at the home of this retired person. The preliminary probe has revealed that the accused had some monetary disputes with Prof Munde."Bansod was accompanied by his relative, Anil Sarkate. After firing the three shots, the accused duo were overpowered and nabbed by the local residents. The police were informed, and the men were handed over to the police teams that reached the spot."Alert residents managed to intervene and nab the duo before handing them over to the police, preventing any further escalation," said SP Pardeshi. The firing caused chaos in the otherwise quiet residential locality, with residents rushing out of their homes in panic. Eyewitnesses said that when people tried to stop the accused, he tried to pelt them with stones.Senior police officers, including SP Pardeshi, local crime branch inspector Vivek Patil and inspector Ganesh Kadam, visited the spot along with forensic experts. A detailed panchnama of the scene was carried out, and evidence was collected for further investigation.Police registered an FIR at the Nanalpeth police station against the accused men under sections related to attempt to murder, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Preliminary investigation indicated that the firing resulted from old enmity linked to financial dealings between the parties. The situation in Sujata Colony remained tense for some time following the incident, but was later brought under control after police intervention.Get real-time updates and result insights on the CBSE 12 Result 2026.
