CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Police in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have provided round-the-clock protection at the residence of Abhijeet Dipke in the MIDC Waluj area, amid growing online attention around the newly emerged Cockroach Janata Party.
A senior police official said the deployment was intended to prevent crowds from gathering outside his home as the group continues to trend on social media.
Deputy commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar said there was no threat perception involved in the decision.
"'We have given round-the-clock general police protection to Abhijeet Dipke's residence located in MIDC Waluj area. This is to ensure there is no crowding at his place since the CJP issue is trending on social media right now," Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar told PTI.
Atulkar also clarified that the move was not triggered by any specific security threat, adding that no formal complaints had been received at any police station under his jurisdiction.
The development comes amid a surge of online attention around the group, which has recently gained traction through memes and political commentary focusing on issues such as unemployment, examination paper leaks and education.
However, Dipke alleged on Saturday that the movement was facing a digital clampdown, claiming its online presence had been disrupted.
He said all of its social media accounts and its website had been taken down or compromised, leaving the group without access to its official platforms.
