Tributes paid to social activist

ALLAHABAD: Noted social activist and a close associate of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Babu Gauri Shankar Srivastava was remembered on his death anniversary on Sunday. People paid homage to Gauri Shankar by paying floral tributes and attending an all-religion prayer meeting.
Gauri Shankar was instrumental in giving the city MNNIT and MLN Medical College in Moti Lal Nehru birth centenary year programme in 1961.People attending the programme praised the efforts and initiatives taken by him.
The speakers lamented that there is not a single memorial in honour of the social worker. It is unfortunate that despite several assurances by the mayor, no memorial has been constructed.
The participants passed a resolution, demanding installation of a statue of Gauri Shankar. A delegation will meet the authorities in this regard.
