Man threatens blast at Maha Kumbh 2025 in social media post; mela police files FIR

Police registered an FIR against a man for threatening a blast at Mahakumbh, scheduled to begin on January 13. This is the second threat to Mahakumbh within two weeks, prompting increased patrolling and surveillance.

Mela police in Prayagraj have filed an FIR under various sections of BNS and the IT Act against a man for posting an inflammatory threat on social media about executing a blast at the Mahakumbh. Joint teams of police and cyber crime units are investigating the threat's origin.
PRAYAGRAJ: The Mela police in Prayagraj filed an FIR against a man following a social media post threatening to carry out a blast at Maha Kumbh.Following the incident, joint teams of Mela police and cyber sleuths started tracking the post after registering an FIR regarding the threat. The world’s biggest religious and spiritual congregation - Maha Kumbh - is commencing from Jan 13 on the banks of Ganga, in Prayagraj.Senior superintendent of police ( Kumbh Mela) Rajesh Dwivedi told TOI that “Mela police have launched fresh investigation into the case after registering an FIR under appropriate sections of BNS and IT act and action would be taken accordingly."“Joint teams of mela police and cyber crime sleuths were tasked to track the origin of the post wherein a man named as , Nasar Pathan, had used derogatory remarks against a particular community threatening to kill at least 1000 devotees in Mahakumbh through triggering a blast."This was the second threat made to Maha Kumbh within a short span of a fortnight.Earlier, a purported video featuring threats to disrupt the key snan dates at the upcoming Maha Kumbh had surfaced on social media, with the voice in the video being attributed to Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The alleged threat comes days after the death of three Khalistani Zindabad Force militants in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police in Pilibhit.
