Wait 25 days before booking second LPG cylinder: Gujarat Govt
Gandhinagar: While maintaining that Gujarat has adequate stocks of LPG and PNG (piped natural gas) and that a panel has been formed to coordinate with the
Centre to ensure uninterrupted supply and distribution, the state govt said a 25-day gap gas between booking two LPG cylinders by the same consumer is in place. As a precautionary measure to ensure adequate supply of LPG for domestic needs in the state, public sector oil marketing companies have introduced a temporary restriction on booking frequency, an official statement said.
Claiming that Gujarat was in a relatively comfortable position compared to many other regions on PNG availability, the govt stated that about 30% of domestic gas in Gujarat was supplied through pipeline. The statement said that the decision to introduce a 25-day gap is aimed at preventing unnecessary panic and hoarding of LPG cylinders. Hospitals and educational institutions will continue to get cylinders as per their requirement, the statement added.
Induction cooktops become hot property
LPG shortage has led to a sudden rise in the demand for induction cooktops. Tejas Panchal, treasurer, Kitchen and Refrigeration Equipments Manufacturers' Association of Gujarat (KREMAG) said, "The demand for induction stoves has increased by five times in 12 days. There is demand for homes as well as commercial establishments. Every household now wants to keep an induction stove as a backup. Commercial induction cooktops are priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 3 lakh while those for domestic use cost Rs 2,500 to Rs 7,500."
