IMFL worth Rs 1.3cr seized in SMC raid near Ramol toll naka

Ahmedabad: In a major operation under prohibition laws, the state monitoring cell (SMC) raided an area near Ramol toll naka on the SP Ring Road and seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over Rs 1.3 crore. The action was carried out on Sunday within the limits of Ramol police station.Police officials said a truck travelling from Ramol towards Aslali was intercepted during the raid. A total of 19,848 bottles of IMFL, valued at Rs 1 crore, were recovered from the vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed that the liquor was allegedly manufactured and bottled by distilleries based in Punjab, including units linked to leading liquor companies. In addition to the liquor consignment, police seized the truck, estimated to be worth Rs 25 lakh, a mobile phone valued at Rs 10,000, cash amounting to Rs 10,000, and covering materials worth Rs 2.3 lakh. Officials said the combined value of the seized items was pegged at Rs 1.3 crore. The driver, identified as Chunaram Jat, a resident of Barmer district in Rajasthan, was arrested on the spot and handed over to the Ramol police station. He has been booked under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police have named multiple wanted accused in the case, including the alleged kingpin Dedaram Jat from Barmer, two unidentified individuals who reportedly loaded the consignment in Punjab's Patiala district, the truck owner and a suspected buyer from Kheda district. The involvement of a FASTag holder linked to the vehicle is also being probed. The raid was conducted by SMC inspectors R K Karamta and P P Brahmbhatt along with their team. Further investigation is underway to trace the entire supply network and arrest the remaining accused.
