Gujarat: GCAS begins registrations for college admissions
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Common Admission Service (GCAS) on Thursday opened online registrations for admissions to colleges affiliated with all state govt universities. The registration window will remain open until May 28. Students from the open category will continue to pay Rs 300, while those from other categories will now pay a reduced fee of Rs 150.Confusion, however, prevails as details on the number of seats, colleges, and courses are yet to be announced. Admissions to arts, commerce, and science colleges under universities, including Gujarat University, will again be conducted through GCAS. Sources indicate that data on seats is expected to be uploaded on the portal within a few days. Last year, admissions were conducted for over 6 lakh seats across 2,800 colleges and 450 programmes. However, the process involved 30 to 32 rounds, inconveniencing students and leaving several seats vacant. To avoid this, there is a proposal to limit the process to three main rounds and one additional round, after which further admissions may be handled by respective universities. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
