Aman Mehta to lead Torrent Pharma in generational transition
Ahmedabad: Passing the baton while powering ahead — Torrent Pharmaceuticals is entering a new chapter as Aman Mehta, next-gen scion of the Mehta family, prepares to take over as managing director from Aug 1. The move signals more than just succession; it reflects a generational shift in the Torrent Group. An economics graduate from Boston University with an MBA from Columbia University, Aman Mehta — currently whole-time director — worked across the Torrent Group's pharma and power businesses. His leadership at Torrent Pharma was marked by several high-impact moves — from integrating Unichem and Curatio Healthcare to reshaping the India business, the company's largest growth engine. He led a turnaround in the cardiac and diabetes portfolios, launched the consumer health division, and drove operational excellence across R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain."Torrent is well-positioned for its next phase of growth, and I am honoured to take on this responsibility. We will continue to sharpen our focus on specialty-driven markets and invest in differentiated capabilities," Aman said. His elevation also completes the picture of a generational relay now well underway across the Torrent Group.
Jinal Mehta, vice-chairman and managing director of Torrent Power, took charge in 2009 and has led the company's ambitious pivot to clean energy, from city gas and green hydrogen to pumped hydro storage. Varun Mehta joined the board of Torrent Power in 2022 as director and now spearheads new verticals including Torrent Electricals, Torrent Hospitals, and Torrent Diagnostics. While Jinal powers the energy transition and Varun expands into high-growth, consumer-facing sectors, Aman is set to steer Torrent Pharma through its next phase of innovation-led, global expansion. Together, the third generation is not just carrying forward the Mehta legacy, they are actively rewriting it for a new era.
