Ahmedabad: Western Disturbance to usher in cooler weekend

Ahmedabad: After broiling in the summer heat this week, Amdavadis may finally find slight relief from Sunday as the maximum temperature is likely to dip a bit due to the impact of Western Disturbance. However, the temperature is still likely remain around 40°C, indicated the forecast by India meteorological department (IMD) on Thursday.The city has been under a hot spell for nearly a week with maximum temperatures staying above 40°C. On Tuesday, the mercury touched 41.4°C. On Thursday, the city's maximum temperature was 40.4°C, 0.8 degrees higher than normal. At 25.7°C, the minimum temperature was 1.4 degrees higher than normal. Relative humidity (RH) increased slightly in the morning hours to 58%, according to IMD. The city forecast indicated chances of partly cloudy sky with maximum temperature around 40°C for Friday."No large change in maximum temperatures during next three days. Thereafter, a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be above 40°C over isolated pockets of Gujarat region as well as Saurashtra-Kutch during the next three days,' indicated the IMD forecast.The IMD bulletin indicated Western Disturbance as a trough and an east-west trough from southeast Rajasthan to Manipur across cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh & southeast Assam persisting on Thursday.The state forecast indicated chances of light to moderate rainfall in parts of Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Amreli and Bhavnagar on April 19 and 20. It is notable that except for the past one week, the state has witnessed below-normal maximum temperatures.
