Engineering student with 14 arrears kills self by jumping off Coimbatore mall

COIMBATORE: An engineering student died by suicide by jumping off the terrace of a mall at Peelamedu in Coimbatore on Wednesday night.The deceased, identified as R Steven Clifford George, 21, of Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru, was a third year B Tech computer science student at a private university in Coimbatore district.According to police, George returned from Bengaluru on Wednesday to attend his exams. However, he did not go to the university. Instead, he went to a mall at Peelamedu to watch a movie at a theatre on the fourth floor. After the movie ended at 9.50pm, he came out of the theatre, climbed to the terrace of the mall and jumped off the building. He sustained severe injuries in the fall and died on the spot.On being alerted, the Peelamedu police reached the scene and recovered the body. Police informed his parents about the incident, and they reached the city on Thursday.
