‘They made me drink toilet cleaner’: Hathras woman alleges dowry harassment by husband, in-laws; FIR filed

AGRA: A 26-year-old woman has filed a case against her husband and in-laws alleging that they assaulted her and forced toilet cleaner down her throat for not meeting dowry demands.The woman, Sheetal, of Sultanpur village under Saadabad police station area of Hathras district got married to Shivam Kumar, 30, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana, over a year ago.In her complaint, she stated, "My father died in 2018, and my mother is physically challenged. I have a younger brother. My mother got me married with Shivam in 2024. My mother spent about Rs 17 lakh on my marriage by mortgaging land and taking a loan. Just two months after marriage, my husband and his parentstarted demanding Rs 1 lakh from me and started taunting me daily."
