AGRA: A 30-year-old tandoori roti maker was arrested in Aligarh after a video surfaced showing him allegedly spitting on chapatis before placing them in the tandoor at a roadside eatery in the Telipada locality under Roravar police station limits on Saturday. This is the second such incident reported in the district within 10 days.Police, along with officials from the Food Safety Department, inspected the eatery and registered a case under BNS sections 271 (negligent acts likely to spread dangerous diseases) and 272 (malignant acts likely to spread diseases dangerous to life) and section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act. The accused, Shoaib Khan, was produced before a court.City circle officer-II Kamlesh Kumar said the video was received through multiple platforms and verified by police. "After identifying the eatery, we registered a case under the relevant provisions and arrested the individual," he said, adding that communication has been initiated with the department concerned for further action against the establishment.In a similar case reported on Feb 12 in Kalua village under Gabhana police station limits, another man was arrested after a video showed him allegedly spitting on dough while preparing rotis at a hotel.
Nasir Khan, 25, a resident of Kota Khas village, was arrested following a complaint by locals. SHO Sachin Kumar said further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities said food safety violations are also being examined, and additional action may follow based on the investigation.
