2 children killed, 3 injured in roof collapse amid storm

Agra: Two children were killed and three others injured after a house roof collapsed during a sudden storm and heavy rainfall on Monday morning in Ghabra village, under the Sikandarpur Vaish police station limits in UP’s Kasganj district.

According to police, the lintel of a house belonging to Jitesh Kumar (28), an e-rickshaw driver, gave way amid the intense weather. All family members were inside at the time and were trapped under the debris. Jitesh’s five-year-old daughter, Sonali, and his six-month-old son, Abhishek, died on the spot.

Villagers rushed in and rescued Jitesh, his wife Neelam (24), and his sister Babita (26). A revenue department team has reached the site and initiated an inquiry. Authorities are assessing the damage and are expected to provide assistance to the affected family.

ASP Kasganj Sushil Kumar said, “On receiving information that two children had died and three people were injured due to the collapse of an old house during a severe storm in the Sikandarpur Vaishya police station area, police reached the spot and shifted the injured to the district hospital. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.”
