AGRA: A court in Aligarh has awarded life terms to seven men in the 12-year-old murder case of NSG commando Tejveer Singh, 25, after he opposed cheating in Class 12 board exams at an inter college venue.
"Board exams were going on at an inter-college in Aligarh's Murawar under Gonda thana on March 12, 2013, and after noticing a student being helped by his father to cheat from outside the classroom window, Tejveer and his brother Kuldeep tried to stop him. The father then called his aides and threatened Tejveer. Around 5:30 pm that day, the accused men -- armed with a licensed rifle and a country-made pistol -- barged into his home and started firing indiscriminately," said ADGC Sudhanshu Agrawal.
The ADGC added that the exam venue was right next to the home of Tejveer, who had come to visit his family at the time.
Both the brothers were struck by bullets and admitted in JN Medical College where Tejveer died. Their other brother, Shyamveer, filed a case at Gonda in Aligarh and police registered an FIR under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The accused men were arrested. A .315 bore firearm along with a rifle were found in their possession. Police filed a chargesheet after a thorough investigation. During the trial, testimony by eyewitness Kuldeep and complaint by Shyamveer, supported by forensic evidence, recovery of weapons and medical reports were considered by the court to frame the verdict.
On Thursday, the court of the additional district judge Ravish Kumar Attri held the men guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 each on the seven -- Sonu, Komal, Hariom, Rajendra, Devendra, Guddu and Rajkumar.
Tejveer's wife, Pinki, is currently serving in the Sashastra Seema Bal and lives in Lucknow with her two children.
