Manik Sarkar separately remembered the melody maestro.
“Crores of Indians have been emotionally attached to the melody of Lata Mangeshkar and I am no exception. She was a legendary singer not only for India but for the whole sub-continent and an inspiration for all of us. Her departure to heavenly abode has caused irreparable damage for the country,” he said.
Deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Lataji. A voice that defined Indian music for generations, her legacy is truly unparalleled.” Information minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “The ‘Melody Queen of India’ leaves a void in our collective consciousness. She will live through her melody for eternity. My thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved family & her countless fans.”
