Gold, Silver Price Today: Gold, silver prices drop

Gold prices in the national capital fell by Rs 1,100 to Rs 1.64 lakh per 10 grams on Friday as traders continued to take profits at elevated levels for a second consecutive session. Silver prices also declined, slipping to Rs 2.71 lakh per kilogram.

Data from the All India Sarafa Association showed that gold of 99.9 per cent purity dropped by Rs 1,100, or close to 1 per cent, settling at Rs 1,64,100 per 10 grams, inclusive of all taxes.

Silver followed a similar trend in the bullion market, losing Rs 600 to trade at Rs 2,71,700 per kg, inclusive of taxes.

Market analysts said the decline came as participants chose to book profits after the recent strong surge in precious metal prices, although global cues remained mixed.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Gold is expected to fall unless US job report disappoints

Spot Gold, following a loss of around 1.2% as it closed at $5082 yesterday, once again caught bids in the Asian session to recover the loss as the US Dollar Index wobbled a bit. However, Brent crude oil, after correcting a bit on possibility of key suppliers managing supply risk, once again surged violently to $87-- highest since May 2024-- on supply worries.

Spike in oil prices is stoking inflation concerns, which means reduced odds of Fed rate cuts/lesser rate cuts than expected earlier. Gold gave up all the gains and is trading flat currently.

Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi warned in the Financial Times that the Iran war in the Middle East could force Persian Gulf countries to stop energy shipments in a matter of weeks, which may drive to $150 a barrel.

Traders look forward to today's US nonfarm payroll report. A weak report may help the metal. Spot gold is expected to trade with a bearish tilt. Support is at $5000/$4840. Resistance is at $5250, says Palak Mirae Asset Sharekhan PR: Praveen Singh Head of commodities and currencies at Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Gold, silver prices rise

Gold prices advanced by Rs 848 to reach Rs 1,60,521 per 10 grams in futures trading on Friday, supported by renewed buying from speculators amid firm demand in the physical market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts scheduled for April delivery increased by Rs 848, or 0.53 per cent, to trade at Rs 1,60,521 per 10 grams. The contract recorded a business turnover of 1,272 lots.

Market analysts said the upward movement in prices was largely driven by traders initiating new positions in the precious metal.

In the global market, gold futures in New York also moved higher, gaining 0.70 per cent to trade at USD 5,115.76 per ounce.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Market focus now shifts toward upcoming economic releases

Gold prices edged lower as profit taking emerged following the recent rally, while a firmer US Dollar Index and reversal in USDINR from all time high weighed on prices. Despite the mild correction, geopolitical tensions continue to keep downside limited as the conflict between the United States and Iran intensifies.

The situation escalated further after the US reportedly sank an Iranian warship in international waters, while Iran continued launching missile attacks across several countries in the region and allegedly targeted key energy infrastructure. These developments have deepened concerns of a prolonged regional conflict, encouraging investors to reduce exposure to risk-sensitive assets and maintain allocations to gold. However, mixed set of comments are increasing volatility in market, as Iran yesterday mentioned that if they get a good deal from US they might consider easing the attacks.

At the same time, several macro factors are simultaneously influencing bullion prices, including shifting expectations around policy easing by the Federal Reserve, currency fluctuations, geopolitical risk and broader liquidity conditions across global markets. Risk assets have witnessed bouts of selling pressure, while energy markets—particularly crude oil—remain elevated, impacting liquidity sizing and cross-asset risk management. On the data front, the US Department of Labor reported initial jobless claims at 213,000, unchanged from the previous week and slightly better than expectations of 215,000. Market focus now shifts toward upcoming economic releases including EU GDP, U.S. retail sales, factory orders and broader labour market data, says Manav Modi Commodities Analyst Motilal Oswal Financial services Ltd.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Sharp fluctuations likely

Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart told ETgold and silver are likely to witness sharp fluctuations during the current trading session. According to him, volatility may persist due to movements in the dollar index, the continuing tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as investor caution ahead of the release of US employment data.

He noted that gold has a support range between $5,038 and $4,984 per troy ounce, while resistance is expected around $5,120 to $5,166 per troy ounce. For silver, he indicated support levels at $80.00 to $76.60 per troy ounce, whereas resistance is projected in the $84.80 to $88.00 per troy ounce range.

Gold and silver prices registered a strong opening on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India as investors increasingly moved toward safe-haven assets amid rising uncertainty linked to the escalating Middle East conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. A weaker dollar also supported bullion, as the decline made dollar-priced precious metals more affordable for buyers using other currencies.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange of India, gold futures scheduled for April 2026 delivery climbed by more than Rs 1,577, or about 1%, reaching Rs 1,61,250 per 10 grams. Silver contracts for May 2026 delivery also recorded a sharp increase, jumping Rs 6,800, or roughly 2.5%, to trade at Rs 2,68,991 per kilogram.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Central bank gold buying momentum eases

Central banks recorded net gold purchases of 5 tonnes in January, marking a sharp decline from the average monthly buying pace of 27 tonnes seen throughout 2025. This drop represents a decrease of more than 80 per cent compared with the rate of purchases during the previous year.

“Central bank gold buying momentum eased at the start of the year, compared to the prior 12 month average of 27t,” wrote Marissa Salim, Senior Research Lead for Asia Pacific at the World Gold Council. She said fluctuating gold prices and seasonal influences may have led some institutions to moderate their buying activity early in the year. The opening months of the calendar year typically coincide with a quieter phase for several central banks, which can temporarily influence their purchasing trends.

Gold, Silver Price Today: ‘Gold continues to be underrepresented in investment portfolios’

Analysts say the recent fluctuations in gold prices do little to undermine its role as a safe-haven asset. They argue the metal’s defensive appeal remains strong amid persistent concerns over inflation, geopolitical tensions and elevated global debt levels.

According to State Street, gold continues to be underrepresented in investment portfolios. Allocations to gold-backed exchange-traded funds account for less than 1 per cent of total global fund assets, well below the 5 to 10 per cent level the firm considers an appropriate long-term strategic weighting.

“As a base case, $6,000 is more likely than $4,000 this year, and we’re just above $5,000,” said Aakash Doshi, head of gold strategy at State Street Investment Management. “That’s a clear point to make.”

According to the council’s latest monthly report, central bank demand for gold dropped significantly in January compared with the pace seen during the previous year. Analysts note that the decline is likely due to short term influences rather than a lasting change in strategy, but the figures nevertheless represent a noticeable break after a prolonged phase of consistent accumulation by central banks.

Gold, Silver Price Today: Gold price surge prompts Ghana's royalty scale proposal

China, the United States and several Western governments have jointly urged Ghana to reconsider plans to raise gold royalties, warning that the move could negatively affect some of the world’s largest mining companies. The unusual diplomatic coordination emerged through discussions with Ghanaian authorities, according to three sources familiar with the matter as well as a letter issued by an industry association.

Ghana, Africa’s leading gold producer, is proposing to replace its current fixed royalty rate of 5 percent with a variable structure that would range from 5 percent to 12 percent, depending on prevailing gold prices. The proposed change forms part of the country’s broader strategy to increase revenue from the precious metal as bullion prices continue to reach successive record highs.

Gold, Silver Rate Today Highlights: According to the latest World Gold Council report, purchases of gold by central banks around the world dropped drastically in January 2026. The record rally in gold prices over the last one and a half years has in most part been driven by aggressive gold buying by central banks, including India and China.However, WGC has said that this drop is likely to be more temporary in nature rather than structural. Gold’s importance as a safe haven asset has constantly been in focus since the last few years with conflicts and geopolitical tensions and the trade and tariff tensions due to US President Donald Trump’s policies from the start of 2025.
