Gautam Adani overtakes Mukesh Ambani as Asia’s richest person with $92.6 billion net worth; check global rankings
Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani has overtaken Reliance Industries’ chairman Mukesh Ambani to become Asia’s richest individual, driven by a steady rise in the share prices of his diversified conglomerate spanning ports to energy. As the founder of the Adani Group, he presides over the country’s largest private port network, leads in renewable energy generation, operates private airports, and is counted among the biggest coal traders globally.According to the latest wealth rankings, Adani’s net worth has reached $92.6 billion, placing him ahead of Ambani, whose fortune is estimated at $90.8 billion. This shift has positioned Adani at the top spot both in India and across Asia.He currently occupies the 19th position on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which tracks the world’s 500 richest people and is updated on a daily basis.A significant portion of Adani’s wealth is tied to his holdings in the group’s ten publicly traded companies. The recent rally in Adani Group stocks has boosted their market capitalisation by billions, reflecting strong investor interest in businesses linked to India’s growth story and energy transition. In comparison, Ambani’s fortune, primarily built on the diversified operations of Reliance Industries across energy, telecom, and retail, has recorded relatively slower growth, leading to a reshuffle in the region’s billionaire rankings.

World’s Richest People: Elon Musk Tops Rankings

At the top of the global rich list is Elon Musk, who leads electric vehicle maker Tesla, which is the world’s most valuable car manufacturer and rocket firm SpaceX. With a fortune estimated at $656 billion, Musk’s wealth is more than twice that of the next person on the list, Larry Page, who has a net worth of $286 billion and co-founded Alphabet Inc..Jeff Bezos holds the third position, with a net worth of $269 billion, built on the success of Amazon.Among Indians, only Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani feature within the top 50 globally.Ambani had remained the wealthiest individual in India for more than a decade until early 2022, when a sharp surge in Adani Group stock prices propelled Adani to the top position. That lead proved temporary, however, as shares of Adani Group fell sharply following a critical report by US-based short seller Hindenburg Research, wiping out around $100 billion in market value at the lowest point and allowing Ambani to reclaim the lead. The rankings shifted again in mid-2024, with Adani regaining the top spot as his group’s shares climbed, supported by growth in infrastructure and the broader energy transition theme. Ambani briefly moved ahead once more in mid-2025, before Adani overtook him again this month.
